As the mother of a child with autism, I’ve learned that it’s okay to cry, it’s okay to be overwhelmed, and it’s okay to advocate hard for your child. What’s not okay is to do it alone. While navigating this lifelong journey with my son, I’ve noticed that many families struggle to navigate the same system. What’s troubling is that thousands of services are available, but they aren’t reaching the parents who need them most. I want to change that. Since the state of New Jersey has 22 counties, I am inviting parents who have children with autism or disabilities to join the group, share available services from your county, share your experiences, and offer helpful parenting tips. Registered organizations are also encouraged to post upcoming events and services. Let’s work together to ensure our loved ones receive the proper care.
Sometimes the hardest part is not knowing where to start. One parent may know about a therapy program, another may have experience with a school meeting, and someone else may know about a local event or organization that can help. When we bring those pieces together, we make the path a little easier for the next family who is trying to figure it all out.
This group is meant to be a safe and welcoming space where parents can come as they are. You do not have to have all the answers, and you do not have to have everything together. Whether you are celebrating a small win, asking a question, or simply looking for someone who understands, you are welcome here.
Every child’s journey is different, and every family’s needs are different too. By sharing what we know, we can help one another find support that feels more personal, more practical, and closer to home. Even one resource, one kind word, or one honest experience can make a real difference for another parent.
